Area: Natural Language Processing in Healthcare
Abstract: Electronic Health Records (EHRs) serve as digital repositories for patient health data, enhancing patient care, operational efficiency, and data-informed decision-making at various points of healthcare service delivery. This talk will focus on the necessity, benefits, challenges, and opportunities in implementing EHRs. The talk would delve into India’s EHR landscape examining policy, infrastructure, and adoption trends, while highlighting significant challenges such as interoperability, data privacy, digital transformation resistance, lower number of healthcare professionals per capita and poor accessibility for marginalized people. The positive drivers behind India’s EHR infrastructure include government initiatives, digitization efforts in healthcare, and increased digital penetration. Drawing inspiration from successful digital payment systems like UPI, the talk highlights the potential for healthcare digitization in India. The speaker advocates for a unified EHR system, robust data access, improved interoperability, and AI Intervention specifically to increase healthcare professional’s productivity. While the challenges of implementing EHRs in India are substantial, the opportunities are equally promising. By strategically addressing these challenges, India can develop a robust EHR ecosystem that would enhance healthcare delivery and propel the nation towards a digitally-driven, patient-centric healthcare future.
